APPROACH
It is really important to me that you feel safe and comfortable. I understand that it takes courage to see a therapist. A lot of courage. I honor your strength, and work consciously to make sure you feel supported and never judged. In my experience, most people are relieved when they leave after the first session.
My approach is to be warm, compassionate, supportive, and in your corner. I will be focused strengths, and how we can highlight those to create healing. I believe that the client-therapist relationship must be strong for our work together to be productive. Once trust is there, we can discuss the approach that feels best for you.
On top of a personal connection, I employ tools and techniques to heighten healing. As a licensed therapist, I have extensive training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trust Based Relational Intervention (TBRI), anger management techniques, health relationship tactics, and mindfulness. I integrate these perspectives according to the need of the client.
EXPERIENCE
I have worked over 15 years in offices, school districts, universities, summer programs, foster care settings, and community centers. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), earning my Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Texas at Austin and my Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology from Indiana University, graduating with honors in both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees.
In addition to counseling, I’ve been featured on the radio, television segments, and multiple conferences around the world, including SxSW Edu, the International School Social Worker’s Conference, and the African Local Summit.
I was raised in Houston, lived in Austin for 10 years, and now live in Bend. My interests include travel (U.S. and abroad), playing sports, hiking and camping, and drumming in several bands.
